Strengthening Core Beliefs for Social Anxiety PDF – FREE

The core belief action plan worksheet is the practical centrepiece here, helping people turn balanced beliefs into small, planned actions. It focuses on using CBT-style behavioural experiments, life domains and realistic timeframes to strengthen new beliefs about the self, other people and the future.

Cover page for Stepping Out of Social Anxiety Module 9, Strengthening New Core Beliefs, with a CBT action plan worksheet for social anxiety.

This Strengthening Core Beliefs for Social Anxiety PDF is designed for adults and older teenagers using CBT-based self-help, as well as psychologists, counsellors and wellbeing practitioners supporting clients. It is most useful when unhelpful core beliefs have begun to change, but older patterns of thinking still feel familiar or convincing in social situations.

The module explains how balanced beliefs can be strengthened through planned action and real-life evidence. It encourages people to approach avoided situations gradually, reduce safety behaviours, practise assertiveness, stay with manageable challenges and notice what actually happens. This makes it a practical follow-on resource for social anxiety work, especially when someone is ready to test new views about themselves, other people and the future.

Examples of core belief action plans are included, such as volunteering at an animal shelter or reconnecting with a friend, before users are guided to create their own plan across areas such as relationships, family life, work, study, career, hobbies, leisure, health and wellbeing. The printable worksheet helps users set targets for change, choose specific actions, think through possible obstacles and identify coping strategies before taking the next step.

Use this resource in therapy sessions, group CBT programmes, wellbeing support, revision of previous CBT learning, home practice or between-session planning. It can be downloaded, printed and completed as a structured guide for turning new beliefs into everyday behaviour. Produced by the Centre for Clinical Interventions.
